Danny Phantom: Ambush

   It had been an extremely long day for the half ghost who protected Amity Park, his home, the place where he gained his powers. He had been fighting his arch enemy, Vlad, in the street, both of them were staring at one another, their muscles tensed, teeth clenched. They were ready to begin again, but the half ghost felt a hot sensation crawling up his throat and immediately, he saw a blue stream of what appeared to be breath. Oh no... Not now! He thought as both he and Vlad looked around, confused at first. Then, a green wolf ghost hybrid sprang in front of them, vanishing into a portal that had opened up in a dark ally. The two looked at one another before they lost their aggressive stance.
   "What do you say, Daniel? I know we have much more in common than just being half ghost. We could unite to destroy whatever just vanished into the Ghost Zone."

   Danny rubbed his chin for a moment and then nodded, his snow white hair complimenting the glowing green eyes that shone at his rival. "Alright, Vlad. Let's do this!"  Danny exclaimed and, together with his rival, darted into the portal before it disappeared once more. Inside, the Ghost Zone was still the same, green with floating rocks and such, purple doors leading to different parts of the Ghost Zone. Danny looked around, the strange green glow causing his own Ghost form to glow. "Alright. Now where did that wolf go?" He asked, looking around. A cold sensation ran up Danny's spine just as his throat grew hot and blue mist came from his mouth once more.
   "You don't need to worry about that because...you will not be able to tell a single soul what you have seen!" Danny turned at the voice just as a blur shot out at him. Danny yelled as he landed hard on one of the floating rocks.
   "Daniel!!" Vlad's voice sounded so far away as Danny attempted to stand, his legs trembling as a green substance that was supposed to resemble blood trickled out of the corner of his mouth.

   Danny gave a cough and the green blood splattered onto the rock as he looked around, trying to locate his attacker. Where'd he go?! Danny spun in a circle, confused and scared. Another blur, the same dark black blur, struck again, this time with more strength. Danny gave another yell and fell again, sliding across the rock, dust flying around him. Finally, he was able to see his attacker as he stood once more, his entire body shaking. The ghost had a black cape around him and his hood was thrown back, revealing bright red eyes and sharp white fangs.
   "Hello, Daniel." The ghost flashed by Danny once more, this time a fist collided with Danny's right eye. Danny gave a yelp and stumbled backward, a hand to his eye. When he removed his hand, he was relieved to find no blood but it hurt.
   He-He gave me a black eye!! Danny clenched his fists, his eyes glaring, searching for his attacker. Vlad's got to be around here somewhere as well... Danny turned and spotted his rival, fighting his own battle with another ghost.

   Well...this is just perfect. While Danny was distracted for that moment, the ghost struck again, sending Danny flying to another rock.
   "Daniel!" Vlad yelled once more, pushing one ghost back and, as soon as he made a move toward the young boy, another stopped him, keeping him busy. Danny shook his head as he shifted, leaning on an arm, a hand on the rock as he tried pushing himself up on his feet.
   I have got to fight back! He told himself, finally managing to stand on shaking legs. When he looked up, he dodged a split second as the ghost attacked again. "Time for you to be taught a lesson!" He shouted as his hands began to glow with a green light. Before the ghost could fly at him again, Danny shot his attack, hitting the ghost directly. He growled as he flew at Danny once more.
   "Now you've done it, Half Ghost!" It barked as it drew something from its belt. Danny's eyes went wide and he took too long to dodge. With a searing pain in his arm, Danny yelled and grabbed his arm, pulling his hand away to find green blood there.
   That's just... He was cut off in his thoughts when the ghost struck again, this time, Danny leapt up and the attack hit his leg.

   With so many hits taken, Danny became weakened, no longer able to fight. Vlad continued to fight until he saw the ghost who had attacked Danny advance, like he was ready to kill the young one. "NO!!!" Vlad yelled and shoved the rest of the ghosts away, flying straight for the ghost. With a great thrust of his fist, he knocked the black ghost away from Danny. Vlad took one look of the young half ghost and became overwhelmed with mixed emotions. "Oh, Daniel..." Vlad whispered, picking the young one up in his arms. He growled at the advancing ghosts and then closed his red eyes, a purple haze surrounding them. With a flash, Vlad and Danny were gone.

   In a swirl of purple, Vlad and Danny reappeared several yards away from the portal that had opened once more. Vlad opened his eyes and glanced down at the young boy in his arms. The younger one's eyes were closed, blood trickling out of his mouth, down his head. His arm was cut, the material of his outfit torn. Grief overtook the older ghost and, with a gently hand, touched Danny's head, feeling the boy's blood over his fingers. "Daniel?" Vlad said, attempting to get Danny's attention. Danny opened his eyes slightly, his teeth clenched as he stared up at Vlad. The boy gave a whimper of pain. Danny saw Vlad's face, but it was blurred. His vision was failing him as his conscious began to slip. "Daniel?" Vlad spoke again, his voice sounding muggy and muffled in Danny's ringing ears. Danny closed his eyes once more, a bright blue ring of energy beginning to form around his torso. "Daniel, no!" Vlad said, fear in his voice as the ring split into two and began to travel up Danny's body, transforming the black and white outfit into a white and red tee-shirt and blue jeans. "You must stay in your ghost form! I need you to stay awake!"

   Slowly, the rings returned to his waist, turning the tee-shirt and jeans back into the black and white outfit Danny always wore when he turned into his Ghost form. Danny opened his eyes once more and looked away from Vlad, his eyes beginning to close again. "Daniel, look at me." Vlad instructed. Danny forced his eyes to stay open as he looked up at the older ghost, the one who had saved his life from ending. Vlad felt guilt wash over him. He had known about the wolf ghost hybrid and had gotten Danny to follow him into the Ghost Zone, into the trap. "Oh, Daniel, I-I never meant-I'm…" Vlad began, cutting himself off short as dread washed over him, mixing with the guilt and grief he felt. "Come on, little badger, we're almost there…You're going to be alright, I promise." Vlad said as he flew nearer to the portal. "Just stay awake for a little longer…" As soon as that phrase was out of Vlad's mouth, Danny's eyes closed and another ring of light formed around his torso. Within moments, his snow white hair changed to black, his black and white suit turned into a white-and-red tee-shirt, blue jeans and red sneakers. The symbol for Danny Phantom on his chest turned into a bright red blob with darker red showing through.

   Vlad became scared all at once. "No, Daniel!" When he saw the dark red seeping through the shirt, Vlad shook his head lightly as he flew nearer to the portal. "No, no…" He shifted Danny in his arms, fear turning into dread. "Daniel, wake up!" Vlad said, his voice trembling with dread. "Please, wake up!" He said again, his red eyes completely worried now. "Daniel!!" Vlad yelled as the portal loomed closer. What was he going to tell his parents? "For the love of…" Vlad cut off his sentence as he flew through the portal, out of the Ghost Zone back into their world. Danny felt cold to Vlad's touch and he instantly knew the boy was almost gone for good. "No…" Vlad whispered as he returned to his human form, his white hair pulled into a neat ponytail behind his head as he stared down at his rival, who hung limp in his arms.
